There's actually more than 2 characters die.
What JK Rowling said is that 2 characters she intended to save get killed.
Not that 2 characters die.
*edit - OK, I bet Hagrid, and Snape get the chop.
As well as Arthur Weasley, Mad Eye Moody, and Tonks.
