Question:

Question about the lead singer of an old band?

I heard that when Jim Morrison died, he left everything to his wife, who then died of an overdose not to long after. I'm assuming that the wealth then went to her parents. Does anyone know what HIS parents thought of all this? I know he had some issues with his father and even wrote a song or two about them. I'm curious about their reaction to being completely ignored and left with nothing.

Answers:

there was a standing debate on whether Morrison's parents had any claim to any of his estate and there were court battles with the parents of Pamela Courson over it. but because all his belongings were left to her, at her passing, her belongings went to her parents.

still Morrison's parents claimed that since they weren't married, they should have some stake in the claim. however, Courson's parents produced a Colorado document stating the ruling of common-law marriage, where the right of common-law marriage was still upheld. though the documents were never signed by Morrison or Courson and there was no evidence that they ever resided in Colorado. it didn't matter. in the end, the state of California sided with the Courson family and closed probate on the estate letting Pamela Courson's family keep the inheritance.
