Can someone help me with this very old song?

My mother used to sing a song called 'Golden Earring'. Well, maybe it wasn't callled that. The lyric goes:

There's a story, that's known to very few,
That when your love wears goldens earrings,
love will come to you.
A gypsy story, that people say is true,
That when your love wears golden earrings, he will come to you.

I have searched everywhere for this and have come up with nothing. I love this song, or, at least, the bit my mother sung. Can anyone help me to find the original?

The song (Golden Earrings) is used in the 1947 film 'Golden Earrings'. The lyrics were by Ray Evans. Paramount got it's number one star and biggest recording star in America at the time, Bing Crosby, to make a record of it. Bing's record sold well, but the big hit version was by Peggy Lee.
