His full name is Michael Kenji Shinoda (born February 11, 1977). He is a Japanese-American musician, record producer, and artist from Agoura Hills, California. He is best known as the MC in the band Linkin Park.

From what I know, he wasn't abused. He sings about abuse, financial problems and alcoholism to give people hope in life. He sings about all that so that people facing those problems will see a brighter side to life and not give up and run away from the problems. Instead, he is trying to send out positive messages to those people and telling them to have faith and be strong.
