Answers:
Guitar World interviewed Frank right after the release of The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance's latest album. The guitarist told us the following:
"Live, I love playing Gibson Les Pauls, but for The Black Parade I used a sunburst Epiphone SG G-400. The one I used actually got broken in three pieces at a show just before we started recording the album, but our guitar tech fixed it up better than new and it sounded great. I also used an Epiphone Elite Les Paul on a few tracks
"Our secret weapon, however, was one of those Roland guitar synthesizers—I think it was the GS-1. We found a setting that was maybe three octaves below the fundamental pitch, and it produced an incredible subsonic growl that we put beneath the really heavy single-note guitar harmony sections. You can hear it on 'Mama' and 'This is How I Disappear,' and it's on 'The End' a little, too."
