Why is it that the majority of really famous people are from the UK or US?!

Question:

Why is it that the majority of really famous people are from the UK or US?

There should really be a higher concentration from outside these two countries, right?

Oh and I mean global fame, not just famous in their own country.

Enrique Iglesias is American actually.

And i'm not talking about the language they speak, I mean their nationality.

Also these countries do not have the highest populations in the world.

I'm massively bored of all your answers. The biggest part of it is due to the fact that the US, and to a smaller degree UK, film/music industries are massively international. While we may get a few big movies from other countries, they have access to pretty much everything on the US market through both legal and illegal means. US studios release just about everything into the international market. That means that US stars like Angelina Jolie (aside from her humanitarian work) and Tom Cruise have a big international following.
Certainly if you went to China or India there are more famous local stars, but they aren't generally as famous on an international level. Even some of their biggest stars like Aishwarya Rai are minor celebrities in the US. The reason being that while their films were huge hits in their native countries, they were only minor hits (or art house films) overseas. It's just that the general public doesn't seem as receptive of foreign films as the rest of the world is to ours. The media. It's down to publicity. Maybe it has something to do with the population of those countries. If you look in perspective for example ABBA is Swedish pop group and they are famous. Enrique Iglesias is Spanish and he is famous too... The trouble is that you have to use English to be known wide enough. Otherwise you will still just in your own country If you are refering to POP culture celebrity then you've answered your own question, both the UK & US are fascinated with "celebrities" they are not famous people they are totally different breeds, famous people (achievers) come from all countries its just some of them prefer to keep out of the headlines. I assume that you live in either the US or UK so how do you know who is famous elsewhere - truth is you don't. Many of the people you perceive to be globally famous are in fact not. When we say globally famous we mean famous in all the other industrialised nations which is really not global. Well, if you're in either of those two countries, then likely it will be someone from that same country that's famous. Those that are really famous here may not be so famous in India and China. They certainly have their own celebrities, although likely their own celebrities don't enjoy the same brand of freedom our celebrities do, which is why it may seem that our celebs are so much more famous on a much grander level as they are able to come and go as they please. MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO AROUND I know what you're saying ...all celebs seem to be only a slightly different version from the last......I think they should give a Panda it's own show before they become extinct - they could have naked dancing Pygmies! I've heard they pack a real punch Mizza!!!! x It's because we're bloody talented people!!! LOL although I tend to say the best 3 things in the world come out of Canada.
1) Kiefer Sutherland (although born in London which i am quite proud of)
2) Bryan Adams - WOW
3) Not a person but couldnt leave out Maple Syrup!!
