Can you seprate actors from their roles on screen?!

Question: This Q is mainly aimed at Americans but everybody is welcomed to answer.
In case the Q's not clear enough wut I mean's if u think actors or actresses r just as u see them on the screen or if you have two inches of brain to know they're just interpreting a role and that wut they do with their lives and how they are is their business.

i definately can seperate the actors from there roles, anyone who cant may have some mental problems, ie "stalkers" who can actors by there role names, im sure jennifer anniston had a stalker who really believed she was "rachel"

on the other hand id say every great actor has a defining role which when you think of them, there is only one main charecter which springs to mind, even tho theyve done lots of great other roles and ive believed who they were in the bulk of them (even pacino playing the devil was quite convincing for me (devils advocate) ha ha ha)

dustin hoffman - rainman
al pacino - scarface

but youll never know how much of theyre own personality theyre actually taking to the role, as you dont know what theyre like in real life. "real celebrities" tend to keep theyre private life private, and im glad. i dont care what they have to eat in a day and how much exercise theyre doing :o) i often wondered if their personality reflected their film roles

guess everyone likes julia roberts, she alway plays sweet roles ...

but then the bloke who did freddy in nightmare elm street is nt a child of a nun raped by convicts & goes round killing everybody! i don't think that's necessarily true. sure lots of people connect the actor with their character, but to say that only Americans think this is extremely false. I always find certain actors e.g. Julia Roberts, Robert De niro , Meryl Streep and Woody Allen who are renowned for their acting always are themselves in every film and I don't like it. Maybe better to be bland so you can mask up. WELL I USED TO FANCY ZAC EFRON BECAUSE HE WAS SO SWEET IN HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC BUT AFTER READING THINGS ABOUT HIM I REALISED HE ISNT THAT WAY AT ALL AND NEITHER IS THAT VANNESSA SLUTTY HUDGENS AFTER HER PICTURES OF HER NUDE WHEN SHE ACTS SO SWEET ON AND OFSCREEN :) SO IT JUST GOES TO SHOW WHAT ACTORS CAN MAKE YOU THINK :p
HOPE THIS HELPED Oh, yes. But it is the mark of a good actor to make you believe in the character he/she portrays. And by and by, you come to think of that person in that persona. Just ignore those who annoy you. As for actors, oh, yes, they may be very convincing in a role--which has nothing to do with their actual lives. One weekend, purely by coincidence, I saw 2 John Cusack movies. One was a romantic movie "Serendipity" & the other was a horror movie "1408." He was convincing in both.
