Answers: Anybody know the date the music died?

feb 3 ,1959 what a tragedy. ritchie valens, buddy holly &the big bopper

not the day "music" died...but the day a good part of it died was January 8th 1991! Steve Clark from Def Leppard

well for me the music died, in 2000. iam a kid from the 90's and those were the best. but they dont play music like that any more, i wish they can make a radio station of only 90's hits.

There are various dates, none entirely accurate.

The line "the day the music died" is a much quoted one from Don Maclean's song "Bye, Bye American Pie". In it's extended version (26 minutes?) it makes many historic cultural references. Maclean has long steadfastly refused to explain them all, preferring to preserve the enigmatic quality of the work.

Whilst the plane crash involving Valens, Holly and The Bopper (all extremely influential musicians) has not been denied nor has the assassination of JFK in Dallas (the music being his popular political philosophy and activities -- The "Camelot" age of optimism).

I was always under the assumption that the music died when a plane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) crashed killing all aboard. The date was February 3, 1959 and the place was near Mason City, IA.

The music will only die when the world comes to an end, but the musicians will all die!!!

The day you couldn't spell them so...October 20,2007
