Australian actresses?!

Question: i want to be one but all australian actresses that have gone on to hollywood never say how they did it. for example:
noami watts first starred in 'the bottle' (eg.) in australia
then it would suddenly go
she then starred in american film "hello mum"(eg.)
it would never explain how she got from australian to us actress. so how did they do it? if they can do it, i want to follow the same path. i live in australia and opportunities for me, especially since i'm asian are very limited. help?

First you need to be established well off in Australia before you can move over.

Heard of Emma Lung? She's an Asian Australian actress doing really well and I'm sure she'll be working in the US soon, if she so chooses.

There are a number of ways an Australian actress can move over to the US:
- they just plain go over and start searching for agents over there, with their experience and skills it shouldn't be too hard then they can start applying for jobs there (you need a Visa though)
- one of their Australian films is released in the States and people over there see it and are interested and ask them to come in for an audition/representation/another role
- their Australian agent/manager has connections with one in the States and they arrange matches with talent (similar to what happens in the US with actors repped by local state agents moving on to work with an agent in LA)

An Australian agent first is almost definitely a must.

Good luck!

shocking. I didnot know that many actresses in hollywood today were australian until they said so in an interview.
