Model, actress, writer. Born Suzanne Marie Mahoney on October 16, 1946 in San Bruno, California. The daughter of an abusive alcoholic father, Somers briefly attended Lone Mountain College in San Francisco before dropping out after becoming pregnant. After marrying and divorcing her child’s father, she sought out modeling and acting work in San Francisco.
Somers supported herself and her son with odd jobs and small television parts before landing the role of quintessential dumb blonde Chrissy Snow on the top-rated ABC sitcom Three's Company in 1977. Following a salary dispute, Somers was relegated to a supporting role on the show and was eventually written off in 1980.
During the 1980s Somers hosted a hit Las Vegas show, appearing on television again in 1991 as Carol Foster in the TV series Step by Step and as co-host of Candid Camera. She has also peddled exercise equipment on lucrative television infomercials.
In addition to acting, Somers has written a book of poetry, two autobiographies, two self-help books and four cookbooks. She is the founder and director of the Suzanne Somers Institute for the Effects of Addictions on the Family and is the recipient of the Humanitarian Award from the National Council on Alcoholism.
Somers is married to producer and manager Alan Hamel, whom she met while working on the TV show The Anniversary Game.
