Do we overrate the value of celebrities?!

Question: Should we give more praise and celebrity to those who are true heroes instead of idolizing movie stars and teen pop singers? If so, please state your opinion about who is deserving of national attention and why.

In my opinion it is the media who is making celebrities be idolized. There is more coverage on TV as well as print about Brittney Spears than there is about the war, or world hunger, or the kids and families that our in our own country that need a helping hand. The media places more value on the fakeness of Hollywood and insults the rest of us but not giving us stories we feel are newsworthy. I believe it is our heros that deserve more attention, The soldiers coming home in pine boxes, or coming home missing limbs. The police officers who place themselves in danger on a daily basis to keep order in our world. The teachers who are underpaid, not given the correct classroom needs, but teach our children day in and day out with the resources they have. We as a country need to turn the TV off and quit worrying about celebrity and look to our families and communities more.

The only celebrity I feel desire any praise are your country singers. They do not in much trouble as your pop singers and as your movie stars. They have a strong love for God and for their country. They have good solid moral values.

Most celebrities are highly overrated! I can't tell you how little I care about Britney Spears. She can't sing and that's what she's known for.

National attention should be put on people like the fire fighters working in California. People like the Iraq war veterans that are coming home, and still going over there, for that matter. It should be put on people that are doing something good for our country/world. Not useless has been pop singers.

If the spotlight has to be on celebrities though at least put it on higher class ones. Actors like Tom Hanks, for instance.

BUT, the world loves a train wreck and people will always care about people liek Britney Spears. Why? I have no idea.

I really think we do overrate the value of celebrities. I think we should give more attention to hereos because they are helping this country and they are benifiting most people. I don't think this will ever change because reading about Britney Spears, Lindsey, etc. is like a train wreck. I believe people want to redicule other people to build themselves up. That is why the paparazzi exists. The people who read the tabloids are just as awful as the paparazzi.

I consider our culture's obsession with the private lives of celebrities a sad statement of our society's values. It is pathetic that the media can feed so much worthless information to so many people for so long. Why does anybody care?
Entertainers--in particular--are consistently in the "news" because some people feel a need to know their every move, word, and plans. Entertainers work for a living to deliver a product to consumers, and get paid ridiculous sums to do it. That's really the basic story of their existence.
Pro athletes, musicians, actors, politicians, highly successful business people, comedians, etc... are not heroes, unless one does something heroic. An actor mouthing off about his views on political issues is NOT being heroic.

DUH !!!
how about our servicemen and women...our police...our firefighters..all those school bus drivers that put up with the little critters..the lonely school crossing guard...the various rescue teams...the voulenteers who dont get paid for doing jobs that the average person wont do...the teachers who put up with more little critters...the prison guards who watch over all the idiots that dont care about anything...all the mothers that give birth while the hubby (??) sets in the waiting room telling jokes to other fathers...the nurses and doctors that keep us alive and healthy..the moms who do the daily chores around the house..the garbage men who get rid of our trash that we dont want or need...the mechanic that fixes our vehicles so we can run around having fun...pretty much everybody or anybody that catches our eyes...EXCLUDING movie/tv/sports stars...

The very concept of "Celebrity" bothers me. We are all worthy people, and we can celebrate one another. Focusing on Movie Stars, and teen pop idols seems to often bother them as thier private life gets shredded.

if you want to say that
