It is sad to say but I don't think today's stars measure up to those of years past. Today we make anyone famous for any reason. There are so many instant celebrities. People who don't even work for their fame. Heiresses that party and get DUIs are famous...but for what? Back up dancers with no actual talent become famous because they marry big a la Kevin Federline. Anyone who does something odd on the news gets at least 15 minutes to strut their stuff. But its our fault. We buy the magazines and we watch the gossip shows. I think back in the day there was more mystery about the stars, we only knew them for their work...so we based their fame on their work. Not on who the were "hooking up" with, or who they were suing, or how many times they were arrested. Its just different times. Don't get me wrong, I love the movies and I have my favorite stars. I just think nowadays, anyone can become famous. Its just not as hard, nor as prestigious, as it used to be.

many don't measure up. really, who could be a modern humphrey bogart? they were irreplaceable. anyway, i think natalie portman is the closest i can think of for a modern version of audrey hepburn. and nicole kidman seems pretty classy. its all about class.

Nope

audrey hepburn is dead isn′t she?

I would say Nicole Kidman is up there, and perhaps Jane Seymour. That was a different era and the way to "rank" a celebrity is different these days. Tom Hanks is up there too.

I think the times have changed, and one can't compare now with the past. Audrey Hepburn was wonderful, but is it fair to compare todays stars to her? Who knows...someday in the future people may look at the likes of Julia Roberts or Meg Ryan or Halle Berry and say about their stars, why can't they be more like that?

celebrity/tabloids, red carpet bullshit and the desire for bigger box office profits have ruined Hollywood...but Anne Hathaway stands out for me - no drama mama
