He was shot December 8, 1980, outside of the Dakota buildings, New York, by Mark Chapman, a deranged fan who thought he WAS Lennon. There are conspiracy theories regarding Chapmans claim that he was a Patsy, but thats the official stance.
Thats a completely new spin on an old theory ...and I prefer the version that he was shot by Mark Chapman. No evidence to prove otherwise.

Yes he was shot by an obsessive fan who was mentally ill. It is not a conspiracy theory of any sort. Yes there are Elvis sightings, ha, ha, but Lennon was stalked by this guy for years before he finally lost it and killed him. Jeez another good reason for gun control
