Does Gerard Butler know how to pronounce his own name?!

Question: Or is he catering to the American audience who doesn't know how to pronounce anything unless it is spelled literally?

I was watching an interview of his on Leno when he was promoting Phantom of the Opera and he was going on about how his mother pronounces it like Jared and he personally hates the American pronunciation even though everyone uses it regardless and prefers to be called Gerry instead. He wouldn't even respond to an interviewer at a Bewoulf press conference who insisted he was really Gerald. I thought it was odd in the behind the scenes making of segments for 300 where he introduced himself using the hated American pronunciation. If he hates it then why use it? Then in the trailer for PS I Love You they finally got it right.

That's one trouble with being an international actor I suppose. Maybe he's too polite to correct anyone?

I believe he does know how to pronounce his own name, Yes. I don't know if he is too polite, but probably gets tired of correcting people.

Sometimes I don't even know what the heck he is saying, with his accent, but I think it is great when he refers to himself as Gerry. Rather solves the other issue.

Looking forward to this new film!

Who cares. He's so f*#king hot his name could be "Sue" for all I care. I just love to look at him.

I don't like calling him Gerry. He doesn't look like a Gerry. He's too handsome to be called Gerry. He looks like a Gerard or a Jared. Maybe he should go by his middle name: James or spin-off which is Jamie. I agree that he appears to be a very polite man (don't know him, personally) and is getting tired of correcting everyone.
