Why did Zac Efron not do his actual singing in the first High School Musical?!

Question: He supposedly does sing in High School Musical 2 and Hairspray, and he sounded fine to me. Is he really not singing in those movies and pulling a Milli Vanilli? Did he wake up and magically have a good singing voice? What's the deal?

None of the HSM voices were unedited.
Apparently his needed more work than the rest.

You can tell the difference between his Hairspray and HSM voices.
Hairspray didn't sound like he had swallowed a computer.

For the 1st part he was unable to sing high tones or peech.so he took up some help from drew seeley.

He didnt because in an interview they said his voice didnt fit well with Vanessa's voice or something like that..so i guess they mixed his voice to change it up alittle because he even said he cant sing...and he couldn't sing high pitch so they chose Drew Sleesy.

Actually he didn't sing in the first movie of High School Musical coz he thought he couldn't reach the high notes. A guy named Drew Seeley sang for him but Zac was the one who actually sang in both Hairspray and high school musical 2.
