If you work with a TV company (or know someone who does), you should be able to get those AAA (Access All Area) passes that allow unrestricted access to the whole concert facility -- including, of course, the backstage.
The other option is a little tricky but very much doable. What you can do is to ring either the promoter or the record company and lay claim to working for a new and upcoming magazine and ask for a media and photographer pass.
So if your story checks out (or sounds credible enough) they'll be keen to take you up for publicity. Soon enough, you'll be building up a relationship with the record company rep, and before you know it they'll be practically handing you passes without you even asking.
Sounds like a cinch, right? Fact is, it's as much about the contacts as it is about how far you want to go (within 'stay cool' limits) to meet your idol backstage. Put your mind to it coz it's all really about desire!
