Why do people who win awards always thank God?!

Question: This isn't a question about the existence of God, so don't answer that question, I didn't ask it.

That being said, I think it is funny that a rap artist, for example, will win a Grammy with an album that includes cursing, racial slurs, derogatory remarks about women and then thank God for the award? It just seems a little hypocritical to me. Not that I am perfect, but I want to know what others think about it.

You're absolutely right. It is very hypocritical to slander women, curse and everything else in the lyrics of the song that they win an award for. However, if it were not for God, they would not be standing there - literally, or figuratively. God gave them life and breath, which allowed them to be there, and He also gave them the talents and gifts that they used to make the album that they are being awarded for. If you ask me, it's the people that are giving out the awards that are messed up! Why would you give any kind of recognition at all for using God-given talent to create....TRASH! Now THAT is what doesn't make sense! Agreed?

people have sinned before an maybe the devil was over their minds when they wrote the song but they asked God for forgivness and they changed so later when they won the Grammy they thanked God

Because obviously, even people who win awards for tacky music realize that God is to thank for everything.

I think it is hypocritical myself. I think they just do it to look good and try to act like they are lessening the negativity of their music by "thanking God."

They thank him because they feel that their "luck" is some kind of religious intervention. Some do it to please the fans. I understand what you mean about hypocritical, but politics do it also. Government and religion are apart, yet candidates are sometimes chosen for their religious preferance. Its all about what appeals to the crowd.

because there is no such thing as coincidence, god is always in the mix rather you sin or not or even believe. but I understand where you are comming from it seems hypocritical, its like the words "thank god" has become a catch phrase. I'm surprise that even some athest are saying it. but God deserves thanks and praise for even the little things in our lives, even the bad. so at least eventhough they are sinners or especially because they sin, it is good that the word of the lord is still ever present on their lips and thougts of praise in their hearts. that is what is important. and believe me not all christians act christian.

Because they want to.

because god helped them through their hard times (except for Jamie lyn spears).
