They are ordinary people like you and I they are not celebrities, they just happen to work in the media spotlight.
I think that whenever a comment becomes public people are going to react to it. Also, celebrities should not be exempt from being sued for libel simply because they are famous.
Celebrities in a sense are public figures. Of course, some of them think that they can do anything they want (Paris Hilton & Britney Spears comes to mind) or say anything they want about anybody.....
For all public figures & celebrities alike, the old adage applies - if you don't have something nice to say about someone, keep your mouth shut.
But I agree that they should get as good as they give.
