MacLaine`s career has eclipsed Hollywood; disproving the adage (applied to MacLaine and Marilyn Monroe) that they were created by studio publicity and the glamour machine.
MacLaine is not only a great comediennne. She is a bittersweet dramatic actress. And as we know she is an unsurmountable musical comedy star.
I saw her perform live in Lake Tahoe in the Seventies when she probably was well into her fifties and she was great!!!!!!!!!!
I had the privilege of interviewing her in Hollywood in 1972 when she had just finished filming `Being There` with Peter Sellers. I asked her about the controversial masturbation scene and she was unconventionally forthright.
So what`s your favourite Maclaine film? Mine is `Some Came Running` and the thing I remember best- wait for it- that 18 inch waistline.

im young so find out about her 2 years ago.and dont know how good she is as actress, but like a person she is real *****.I served in 5 star hotel in northern ireland for week.Very rude with star disease person.Not once said thank you.We even did a birthday cake for her and 'happy birthday'.Nothing back.so dont really wanted watch anything after that

I thought Shirley Maclaine played off Michael Caine very well in Gambit.
Not one of her better Movies but in The Cannonball Run 2 especially in the outtakes she is very funny.
i saw her on "this morning" with phil and fern last week, a very unassuming woman,ok she has had a lot of celebrity lovers but she doesn't count herself as "celebrity" she says she does a job that she loves,she came over as intelligent, bright and very hard working, i can't say that i have ever seen any of her films, but i do think she is a true hollywood icon,and i will be looking out for some of her films.
