Celebrities more important in America?!

Question: Does anyone else think that celebrities get way to much attention, get payed way too much, and just aren't as important as other things going on in the world? And why do you think America is like that, buying magazines to read about people they don't even know?

I wrote a question about the most important events of 2007. I only got three answers, two about Britney Spears, and only one about Bhutto's death. I thought this was kind of sad, so I was just wondering.

Yes yes and MORE yes. Ive asked questions like this before, dont expect all that many responses.

I think its an awful thing when you turn cnn on to find out what is going on in the world, and what you see is a bunch of reporters camping out in front of the police station where Paris Hilton is being held. I mean, wtf. Seriously, footage of her crying in her car on friggin CNN! Ridiculous! I feel like eventually instead of having the 11 o'clock news reporting whats going on in the world and then a segment of unecessary celebrity sh*t, its going to be 30 minute's of celbrity and 5 minutes of important news... like its just an after thought.. "Oh yeah, did we mention 10 more people have died in Iraq?
And now back to Brad and Angelina's 127th adoption!"

Something like that wont surprise me. And if this happens, I will cancel cable and just use my dvd player.

It is so bad now, I basically stay on the same channels. ones that dont report the gossip, Im tired of it. "News Alert! : Brad Pitt just farted." Sadly, I am amazed that -that- hasnt made news. Probably because the media doesnt have that info, but if they did, I gaurantee we'd hear about it.

The public is obsessed. Spending money they dont have to try and look like people.. that realy dont even look like that themselves. Someone asked a question about Hilary Duff, asking if she looked fake and they left a link with a picture. She did look fake. I responded with that and I also said real girls dont look like this. I got 6 tumbs down. People dont want to hear that, but Im sorry, it is true. Hilary Duff, without millions of dollars and shitload of makeup, would not look like that.

People are obsessed, they want to be them. Their living in fantasyland, trying to be something, that in reality, nobody realy is.

And btw, people are in serious need of a reality check. It is so sad when they honestly believe that one day they will meet one of them, marry and have that lifestyle, its never going to happen. People should quit being so delusional and live their own lives instead of trying to live someone elses.

Because a majority of the media - not just in the United States - needs to find stories that "sell " and are sensational. Evidently stories about Paris Hilton or Britney Spears will cause people to tune into that TV station or buy that magazine in the market to find out the newest dirt. I am tired of hearing about what celebrity is wearing what or about what celebrity is now in rehab or about which celebrity is anorexic or which celebrity is on the brink of an emotional melt down. There are far more important things going on in the world such as the war in Iraq or the upheaval in Pakistan or even social/environmental issues at home. If you want to hear about celebrities then tune into Extra or Entertainment tonight and quite having live coverage about the release of Paris Hilton from jail on CNN and Fox.
