I do not know if they had children but married couples with children sometimes refer to each other as mother and father or daddy and mommy. I think that this is sometimes done so the children do not get confused because parents do not want their children to call them by their first names.

sometimes in those old movies the husband refers to his wife as mother...you see that alot in movies from the 30's and 40's especially in comedies....even in the original little rascals, darla's father called his wife mother...maybe because sometimes wives are like their husbands mother, or at least it used to be that way when women didn't work and just were housewives, they took care of all of everyones needs
