his appendix had an infection so he had to get it out. it means that this useless part of his body had to be removed

Zac Efron was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center today suffering from appendicitis.
His rep said, “He had his appendix removed and is recuperating.”
Zac should make a full recovery from the surgery, which shouldn’t disrupt the filming of High School Musical 3: Senior Year at all.
We hope girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens has good bedside manner–she’ll be there throughout his entire recovery!
