Who would want to be a celebrity?!

Question: Why are there people lining up to be famous, when you can tell that life in the limelight can mess people up, obviously commenting in regards to the recent death of Heath Ledger.
with a long list such as Marvin Gaye, Marylin Monroe, River Phoenix and many.Owen Wilson's attempted suicide, many celebrities going of the rails, in and out of rehab! why is this a life style that people aspire to, when it obviously isn't the glamorous life that they think it is!???

I agree.

I think that it's how they appear on TV and in magazines. They look and act happy and glamorous, but they are really not. They have problems just like the rest of us, if not more.

Fame and fortune are overrated.

Pfft, I'm already famous. :)

No privacy, I would die with out it, I suppose that is why I don't promote my work. I can't stand people. The secret is doing it with out people hounding you.

well i want to
and youre only mentioning people who have screwed up
theres celebrities out there who havent too u know
and its not my fault they did that and they dont have that kind of responsibility
i can do better

well thats not what all celebrities turn out to be
no offense but not just hollywood actors get hooked up in drugs and alchohol
regular people do too
its just the stress of everyday life gets to be too much
the celebrity lifestyle seems awesome for many people
some people just cant handle it
and it has a negative effect on them
plus i dount heath ledgers death had to do with hollywood
it was probably something personal that caused him to commit suicide.

id be an awesome famous person and some of my friends would also be great its CALLEDD REalness! and being able to handle life oh yea and JESUS

agree with the first answerer.
money is necessary, tremendous wealth is not.
being liked is essential, popular is not.

I just want the money, you can keep the fame.

Not me, but I could use some $$$. I want to be rich, but not famous!

well sometimes it may just be the glamorous life people think that it is. not every celebrity turns out to be a whackjob. sometimes, things may be going on in their personal lives that may drive them to do some of the insane things that they are doing/have done. the same things goes for "normal people", a lot of people do drugs, party all night, and try to commit/or commit suicide, everybody in the world just isn't aware of it.

Fame and fortune is too enticing for some people that they ignore the downside of being a celebrity.

Not me!!!

NO WAY!

People want to be in the limelight. The center of attention. They think fame and riches will solve all their problems and make life better. Unfortunately, the problems are already there. Fame brings more attention to them but isn't the root cause.

I used to want to be famous. Had a taste of it for a couple of years locally with my music. It can be very heady stuff if you aren't raised with the proper morals and standards. Now I'm content just being in the background.

I'm also related to several people in the entertainment industry and have been friends with people who later became celebrities. I've seen how they handle themselves and their celebrity status.

I am a celebrity for those who know me,counted in fingers of both hands,or there abouts, and that is enough.
Some times ,as you say ,for those under the spot light , life is not at all what they thought.
It is always a shame when anyone goes ,by accidental death or an overdose, famous or not, known some myself, personaly.
Very difficult ,in these cases ,for the ones who stay behind,my thoughts with them at this moment.

I wouldn't want to. Paparazzi in your face everytime you went out and always having to meet standards of what the public wants you to do or be.
