They were going for a kiss on the cheek. The camara got at an akward angle that made it look like that. Look at again and you can tell they're going for the cheek.

Seriously, the photographer just took the shot at a bad angle. They were really supposed to be nose touching.
maybe if you cant tell but they are not kissing. the angle the picture was taken made it seem like they are kissing.
