um call a doctor because it seems like it takes ambulances forever to get to the person anyway. i'd probably be long gone by the time the ambulance arrived.

Depends where you live these days...Do not phone NHS Direct if someone is dying aways dial 999 and speak to the operator who will call the ambulance and paramedics...this is an emergency and NHS Direct will hold things up whilst the help desk operative asks the caller .questions.
No point in dialling the doctor out of hours as you will be referred to NHS Direct anyway. No I would like someone to take the iniative and phone the emergency services............No contest!
