Christian Protesters @ Funeral?!

Question: I was talking to somebody today and they said that there will be Christian "activists" protesting at Heath Ledger's funeral because he played a gay character. Are they really allowed to do this? Can they be stopped? I'm just wondering. I think that it would be terribly sad if jerks with "God Hates F*gs" signs showed up to such a solemn occasion that should be a peaceful goodbye ceremony for friends and family.

I'm assuming they CAN be stopped, even if this person in question is a celeb. Aren't funerals supposed to be PRIVATE gatherings, unless the family allows it to be public? (( I think a president who died a year or two ago's family did that, didn't they? ))

If that's for real, ANY of those protesters, can't say jackshyt about people pressuring/bothering them. They're the ones who give Christians such a bad name.
Leave the person alone. They're dead now. They're not harming you, like they ever were in the first place.

Honestly I don't think that will happen...

I doubt there will be somhow ??

I've heard about those crazy people. They need help. They have absolutely no respect for anyone. They also protest at the funerals of servicemen. Ugh!

those aren't true followers of GOD.Don't let them fool you.

Yes, they are legal.
There is a group of these nuts that show up for our mlitar funerals for our fallen heroes.
It sure would take all your courage not to go up and smack one of them.

those freeks go to soldiers funerals as well because they believe that war casualties are gods way of puninishing us fall for tolerating homosexuality sadly law does not prevent these vile behavior

these are not real christians they are crackheads looking to make noise

Yes, this is sad, but true.
Just because he played in a movie about a gay cowboy. It's so ridiculous.
I would like to punch all of them protesters in the face.

yes they can leally do this.sad isnt it...I am sure family will have security there to keep the crazies away....
just think if instead they turned their attention to healthcare for everyone and marching on washington, dc or write the lawmakers about ending war in iraq, feeding the homeless and clothing the poor or other good causes what we could accomplish as amerians and gain back some of the respect we have lost in the eyes of other countries imagine how much we could do

Sounds like the same group of whack jobs that have been protesting at soldier funeral saying that God is punishing soldiers for America's tolerance of homosexuality. Unfortunately, freedom of speech means they are allowed to do this as long as they are not trespassing or otherwise causing a disturbance.

First of all, anyone who would do that is NOT a Christian. They are a cultist claiming to be Christian. Protesting at the funeral of a man for any reason, even for portraying a homosexual in a movie, goes directly AGAINST Christian teachings.

To answer though, no, there's nothing that can be done. Just like the "church" that protest at military funerals. Nobody can make them stop.

Unfortunately some people do sick things like that. Here is an example of one of those kind of people who protested dead soldier funerals!!

no, i doubt something like this would be allowed.

The Phelps family. A twisted "Christian" bunch of bigoted and hateful morons. No, there isn't any wya to stop them---however, caring citizens will usually stand in front of them and block them from view.

I hope they don't that would be really rude, and actually just plain flat out stupid.
(And if they really looked into there beleifs, it says in the bible that God loves everyone, even gay people..... some people are just sooo f**ked up)

They can probably get a court order requiring protesters to stay at least 50 feet away or something. The families of soldiers got that when war protesters were going to their childrens funerals.

they can to an extent, but they are not true christians, they are devils. May heath rest in peace that poor soul. my prayers go out to him.

i am a christian:)but i think that it is wrong. protest about that another day. his family is hurting. god dose not hate fags. he doesn't approve of their life style but he doesn't hate them. are you a beliver? hope so.

It's sad but this really happens. There's a group in Missouri (or Kansas.. i forget) that has been protesting funerals of fallen soldiers. There has been a law passed to keep these people away from protesting at the funerals, to let grieving people grieve. I'm sure that will be the case with Heath Ledger's. Of course, they are allowed to protest the day before or the day after.

Well my thinking is if that they are really Christians as they claim they will stay away , keep their opinions to theorselves and let the family have some privacy in their grief.

Its freedom of speech and unfortunately they can. They won't be able to get close to the actual funeral ceremony though. There will be security to stop that. But they can do it down the street or wherever. Just feel sorry for them, they are lowlifes. I don't imagine there will be much of a gathering though. They will have to fly from wherever they are from to Australia and considering how they are a bunch of hillbillies I don't imagine they will be able to afford such an adventure.

Its probalby those freaks from Kansas, Westboro Baptist Church. They call themselves Christians and they do if fact prostest at soliders who where killed in action

there are some So-called christians in this world ya know.
though not everyone is that immature. (not you) you seem smart.

These people are as much Christian as the people who perpetrated 9/11 or 7/7 are Muslim.

They are just bigots. Simple as that.

I know who talk 'bout they are these groups of f**koffs dat go 'round the Midwest spreading thier peanut butter allover the place an den dey chant at the funerals ub dead soudiers 'cause dey like to see American soudiers die because they fight for a country dat fights for gay rights and da rights of all human beings. Den dey hav to bringin these motorcycle guys who are hired to s**t on dat guy parade. Dey rev up thier engines so the greving family cant hear dat one crazy preacher dude. It jus a big mess if you ask me.

Westboro Baptist Church pickets lots of things - including funerals of soldiers.

Please, please don't think that Westboro represents Baptists or speaks for the Baptist denomination as a whole. And please don't think they speak for all Christians.

That being said, Ledger doesn't deserve someone picketing at his funeral. There will be lots of security and media there, so hopefully this won't happen.

Hi, I hope not, if they do then they should be ashamed he was playing a part in a film for goodness sake....... and they shouldn't do it at any ones funeral, if they are straight or gay. I do hope they will be stopped.

..

it is protestant not protesters

ill be there with in a thong with a banjo. ur welcome.

if any kind of idiot would protest at a funeral
it surely would be a christian fundamentalist....
