When I first heard about it I was on the computer and listening to the news on the TV. There was a commercial break and a commercial for TMZ came on. They said something like "Actor Heath Ledger found dead in his apartment on the next TMZ." When I heard that I wasn't exactly sure if I had heard right.
Then, when TMZ came on a few minutes later I was glued to the TV to see if I heard what I thought I heard. Sure enough, that was the top story. I was completely shocked!! Heath was one of my favorite actors. I loved him in A Knight's Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You.
It's so sad to lose such a great actor. He was so young and he still had so much to offer to the future of movies. He will be sadly missed, but he will always be remembered for the great movies he was in and the great person that he was.
I've read some other answers to questions like this and people keep saying things like they don't care about celebrities or we should get over it because he was just another celebrity. Well, I think that's wrong. Just because someone is a celebrity doesn't mean that they don't have feelings. Celebrities are people just like everyone else. I think that if people are compassionate and caring then they are going to grieve whether they knew who that person was or not. It's a perfectly natural thing to feel sad or cry over something like this. Afterall, we are human.
My heart goes out to Heath's family and friends at this time of sadness. Rest in peace, Heath. We'll miss you!
I didn't even know who the hell he was until he died.
Lots of people die and no one ever cares about them; why should Heath Ledger receive special attention just for being famous?
Well, sad of course. But I didn't really know him, so it wasn't as personal as say when my sister died.
I was so suprised, i was on the internet when i found out i thought i was on some prank site. I went to Eonline and i saw it there. I think its so sad because he was such a great actor. I feel so sorry for his daughter, she'll never know her dad but ppl will always be talking about him.

I was very surprised. I met him last summer and he was such a nice person. I wish that the media would leave Matilda and Michelle alone. They already tried to badger Jake into making a statement but he refrained from doing so bc he thinks that it's none of the paps biz. I agree with him. The media needs to stay out of this and stop speculating.
I thought it was very sad since he was so young and left behind a 2 year old child who will grow up without knowing her dad.

This is how it went down for Heath Ledger! Heath's mind went a bit crazy after playing sinister Joker in Batman, then he got the flu that turned worse and he was having problems sleeping so he was taking Ambien, and several pain killers and anti aniexty medications. Well, being only 28 years old and never being as sick mentally and phyisical, he thought that maybe if he rolled up a $20 bill and crushed up all his meds into one line, he'd sleep better and get better, which is what killed him. All Ledger had to do was check into a hospital but maybe he was afraid they would pick up on his mental state and try and commit him as Britney Spears thinks thru all the Kevin Federline hoopla surrounding her custody for kids, Kevin has scared her so much into thinking that if she shows for hearings she will be taken into custody herself to the looney bin so she is thinking mentally downward... now if she can only stay well and not snort her meds! Anna Nicole Smith is also like Heath except she wasn't as smart or tough. But when she got ill after her giving birth and death of son, her resistance and mental stamina went low, which brought on thoughts of "well, maybe if I take them all at once and sleep I can sleep off the flu sickness" In both cases it didn't work, so RIP Heath Ledger even though you never seemed a happy fellow.
It's unfortunate that he was only 28. His career was at it's peak. But, whenever someone leads the partying lifestyle, then they choose the consequences. I realize he did not overdose, but it is coming out that he was an intense partier (that's why Michelle Williams left him). I don't have too much sympathy for someone who was using drugs.

Since I live in Croatia, I found out the news about his death a lot later than people living in the USA. But, neverminding that, when I saw it on TV I was shocked. I couldn't believe, so I went to check it out, and saw that it was for real, no gossip or anything. I just on the chair in the kitchen and started at the screen, noticing nothing but that sentence "Heath Ledger found dead". I, like many, didn't know him personally, but he was definitely one of my favorite actors. After the first shock, I felt tears falling down my cheeks... I couldn't really stop crying, and even now, after a few days have passed, I still find myself thinking about it all over again, at times not believing that he really died.
Recently, another big star died here. He wasn't internationally known, but he was known here - and he was a huge star in the area where I live, known as ex Yugoslavia. I didn't know him either, but it just broke my heart when I found out about his death. He was only 26.
And now, my heart is broken again, after Heath is found dead. He was only 28. It's so sad and tragic that such young lives are lost... I miss him and I hope that he found peace. Now, we must pray that his family and close friends find it too... because no matter what, Heath left something behind, his beautiful daughter and his movies in which he was just amazing. Surely, he will be missed by so many, including me. Rest in peace Heath, I hope you found it and that you're in a much, much better place now.
