Why do people compare Heath Ledger to James Dean?!

I'm a fan of both actors, and there are a few similarities between the both of them.
Both died before there time (James Dean was only 24 and Heath only 28), both accidental. And another thing is that with both actors, the movie there were working on when they died, wasn't completed yet. Jimmy had finished his acting part in 'Giant', but there were still scenes to be shot with the other actors, and part of his speech in the 'last dinner' scene was later 'dubbed' by Nick Adams because James Dean was mumbling. Heath was working on a Terry Gilliam movie, for which all the studio scenes still have to be shot.
Both were very talented actors, and they were both interested in directing movies later on in their career.
But there are of course also a lot of differences: they come from different countries, lived in different times. Heath has been married and has a daughter of 2 years old, something Jimmy never got to experience.
I just think that when something tragic like this happens, people will always look back to the past and compare what happened and the person whom it happened to, to someone else that lived before.
Personally I think you should always look at a person and appreciate his work / talent, without comparing him to someone else.

i was about to say the same thing as isabella, i completely agree with her. there was a song made about james dean that said he was "too fast to live, too young to die", that quot fits heath just as well.
