Teased about Michael Jackson. :(?!
Question: Ever since I've been interested in Michael Jackson all I've been getting is teased and tormented at school. I know I should be proud of being unique and liking what I like but it's getting to the point of mental pain and depression. I did a presentation on him for a project to try and get people to understand why I like him and his music and it's not all about the media and tabloids but all I got is laughed at.
Some people don't talk to me because of this and the people who do talk to me, respect me less. My parents even think I'm weird. How do I ignore this without feeling bad.

I know exactly how you feel the same thing has happened to me all my life I have been a fan of MJ since i was 2 and Im 27,you do the math,
but dont let it get you down,feel proud of being an MJ fan because I sure am,and remember no matter what MJ loves you,he loves all his fans with all his heart,I'm sure he would be proud of you
Michael is a true musical genius and every single singer has said they owe tribute to MJ for inspiring them,so tell anyone you critisizes you if it wasn't for MJ whatever singer they like probably wouldn't be around
or also you can catch someone comepletly of gaurd and come out with some snide remark such as
have you seen MJ in those gold pants,and your asking why I like him
but most people dont like MJ because they belive in all the garbage that has happened in 93
but you can tell them he is innocent because back in 93 that kids father asked MJ for 10mil to help him release a movie and MJ said no thinking the movie would flop (which it did)and that he wouldn't get his money back,so to get even the kids dad blindsided MJ and started that horible crap
I have told many people this and have actually converted many haters into fans
some people who belived in the garbage from 93 were even more set in there views because of the kids mother back in 01 being a money grubbing snot,thinking she could use that against MJ because she likes to sue people for money instead of getting off her butt and get a job like everyone else

Michael Jackson is a very disturbed individual, regardless of his prior talents as a soul/pop star.
I guess there are also people out there who still regard OJ Simpson as a great running back in old school football, but most regard him as a double murderer who got away with it.
Hey, whatever floats your boat, but don't expect others to see what you see. I was a huge fan of Jackson from way back, but when he just got too weird, I just couldn't deal with him any longer. I am also now a parent, and that changed my thoughts about people like Jackson.
I had a friend who liked Michael Jackson's music too. I don't know if she still likes it though. But you shouldn't let others put you down by what you like. Just ignore them and don't let them get to you. But this situation is bad because even your parents think your weird, which is not good. But keep on liking the things you like. It's true, it makes you very unique.
You should be proud of who you are, in a sense you just like music from "before your time", because back in the 80s and 90s you'd be weird for not liking him. I'll be honest, I had a similar problem back in my middle school days when I liked a band that was from the 60s/70s. I was made fun of, and I let it get to me and it made me really bitter. But in the long run, most of the people who made fun of me ended up liking similar types of music as they got older.
So, don't let them get to you... just keep a tab of everyone who made fun of you so you can laugh back at them when they one day realize that Michael was a great artist before all the tabloid stuff hit the fan!
i think it would be hard to just ignore this but we are entitled to who we like and listen too! if you are feeling this way because of the way people treat you just think of how much pain michael jackson feels; he was vey liked by everybody and im pretty sure at one point was liked by this people who laughs at you ! this are the type of people who pretends they don't like him but are just embarassed that they used to listen and dance to his song ( well who didn't anyways he was a dammned good singer) i myself i still like him and his music and i don't care what people think i enjoy his music and will continue to listen to it. cheer up kiddo and dance to the beat
well i am 24 and very popular and i am just me i hav elots of friend for being my self in school i was not popular and now the ones that was are in jail on drugs or dead so don't worry about what pep think thats the first thing u have to realize and second they talked and made fun of jesus and know he is the king who do u think jesus is laughing at keep your head up and don't worry about peop;e and what they think only what you want
Back in the 80s I used to get teased by everyone for liking MJs music too and wearing the jackets covered with his buttons, and posters covering my walls at home and all of his biographies, I mean it gets obsessive. But I didn't let it get to me probably because I revel in my weirdness I don't care that others think I am weird because I think I am weird too and it's a good thing.
Accept your unique weirdness and embrace your inner wacko jacko:) heck, invite people to come along!
Don't listen to ANY of those people who make fun of you. I am in the EXACT same spot as you. My parents don't even like him as much, my friends think he is weird, but I stand up to them. I say, "I don't care what you think, he will always be in my heart FOREVER." Keep that in mind, Michael will always be in our hearts.

Don't let them get to you. Embrace your love for Michael eventually they'll understand that they're not going to change your opinion and they're not accomplishing anything by making fun of you. Most high school students are close minded when it comes to music. They only listen to what is on MTV and anything other than that is "old peoples music" ironically, all of those people making fun of you will dance to Thriller when they go to college and you'll be the one laughing at them for knowing what a great artist Michael was all along.

Don't let them get to you, be strong and Keep the faith. You're better than them, you're smarter, you know the truth. These people at your school are being rude. Not talking to you, not respecting you. You don't need people like that. When they laugh at you they want you to get hurt, show them you don't care what they say, ignore it. That's what pisses them off because they want you to care, show them you don't. Just remember, Michael will always be there for you. He was always there for me every time i had a problem. Back in high school I remember telling all my friends how much I love MJ and how precious he is to me! Most schoolmates didn't like me AT ALL and they would tease me about MJ too! They called him a pervert, zombie, ugly and all those awful names but I never gave up! I always defended him and when I realised that they were just having fun by doing that to me I just didn't pay any attention! U should have seen their reaction! hahaha they were so frustraded and going crazy but I was walking tall and didn't even look at them! Although my friends were teasing me too they stopped because they could see that whatever they said about MJ I just didn't give a f.uck and was REALLY proud of him! Lol and so they began to collect MJ posters and all kind of pics and they gave them to me and told me that they admire me.. they admired the fact that even I was teased I didn't break and never gave up! After that I did sth that really helped me and also helped my frienship with them. I asked them who their fav celeb was and one of my friends said Tom Cruise. So we started trading posters of our fav celeb! That happened with my other friends too! And baby it worked! Things got so much betta and what I also did was to make em understand that there should be understanding. We would talk about our fav celebs every day and each one of us felt happy that there were ppl who liked to hear em talking about their fav celeb! So just try it too and I am sure ur friends will give u the respect u deserve (cause u said they respect u less). Tell em that u are their friend and they should respect ur likes and dislikes, choices and opinions! You respect theirs and they respect yours..
Don't worry, smile and keep the faith! We all MJ fans have gone through this and we still are teased about MJ but we don't care! Right? <3

Just don't care about them, they don't know better. If you like MJ that means you have good taste :)
