So, the results are out. Heath Ledger died from an "accidental overdose.&qu!

Question: they were, the painkiller OxyContin, the anti-anxiety drugs Valium and Xanax, and the sleep aids Restoril and Unisom. Ok, how the hell is this an ACCIDENTAL OVERDOSE, when someone pops this many pills. He was obviously a pill popper. An accident is what happened to those window washers in NYC, when their scaffolding broke and they fell 50 stories (1 lived by the way, miracle). What Heath did was not an accident. He was obviously a drug addict. I'm not a pill popper, but I have some friends who are, and they ARE DRUG ADDICTS. Oxycontin is a very powerful and addictive drug, why the hell was Heath prescribed this? It's as much the stupid Dr's faults as it is the addicts (Heath) fault. Heath was a drug addict. To call it an accidental OD is outrageous. Perhaps it wasn't a suicide, but this was no accident. Did he trip, fall, and 5 or 6 different pills fell in his mouth? Now that would be an accident. The coroners office calls this an Accidental OD to placate the grieving

I agree.

OxyContin is a very powerful drug.

And the fact that he had Valium AND Xanex in his system... AAAAAANNNNNDDDDD Oxycontin....?

Druggie. Sad he had to go out like this.

That's what money and fame will do to you.

That's not an accident. Anyone knows if you put that in your system you aren't going to survive.

Calling it "accidental" would require being in the head of Ledger at the time. No medical examiner could possibly know that. It should have been simply listed as an overdose of a combination of drugs.. to be medically and scientifically accurate.

Yeah he should have , but with the pressures of the world out their plus the extra scrutiny of the public eye who wouldnt be a little stressed out and irrational. I mean if your having guys on the T.V. and the internet talking about every little thing you put in your body and calling you names It really takes its toll. If was in any rational mind he would have realized that those people really dont have that much of a life and their oppinions dont mean much but I gues If you see it everywhere ...I dunno ...poor guy.

Yes he should have checked himself into rehab, and I heard that he was an achohlic as well, and he would take Cocaine and all that kinds of stuff, but he was a good actor and always will be,and his little girl and the rest of his family are in heart at this very difficult time.I loved Heath Ledger, like as a great actor and to me I think he might be a better actor than Marlon Brando. That is just my opinion. He will be greatly missed, and maybe it wasn't an accident, because he did take pills, maybe he was abusing drugs. Yes I think it was Dr.'s Fault more than it was Heaths, but Heath is in a better place now called "Heaven" and I am a christian and I believe that he is there with god as we speak.

Yep! Big Pharma has the multitudes believing that a pill will fix what ails 'em! Most of the new drugs have so many side effects that they're worse than the ailment they claim to treat! Be careful out there! ;-)=

i imagine it's because as people take drugs like that they build of tolerences. you know-where once 1 oxycontin did the trick, it now takes 5. i think that the person taking the pills just slowly increases the amt they are taking thinking that it won't mess with them. but i agree, somewhere in the back of his mind, he was aware of what he was doing.

i would say he was most likely doctor shopping (getting the drugs from multiple doctors without them knowing, and filling them at multiple pharmacies so they pharmacies dont catch it). that could easily explain the 3 benzodiazipines, and if you give a liberal doctor a big sob story it isnt that hard to get a hydrocodone prescription. unisom is the same thing as benadryl and its over the counter, probably didnt play a major role. but yeah unless he has had some documented injuries i dont know why a doctor would have prescribed the oxycontin. usually with someone that young unless they have past documented trauma or cancer or something that is a huge red flag. someone will probably be in trouble.

if he didnt try to kill himself (they found him naked on the floor so he probably didnt), it would still probably be considered an accident rather than an intentional overdose. 5 of those 6 drugs cause respiratory depression, high-normal doses of all of those taken together is probably enough to make a person pass out and stop breathing, especially if he was drinking too.

I disagree. Show us where - over the career of this young man - his name was NEVER in the news to anything drug related that I ever remember, he wasn't in the tabloids or on any of the celebrity entertainment shows for being connected to drugs, alcohol or anything like that. Because you know in the world now with the media the way it is - we know everything about all the celebs - especially when they are doing bad things.
why automatically assume he knew he was taking a lethal dose of the PRESCRIPTION medications he was given. I don't believe everyone would just know these things.
give proof he was a drug addict. I believe this was an accident. WHY would the coroners office say what isn't true? they have said things - however painful it could be - concerning other people. Why would this be any different?

ok - so how would YOU know that it wasn't accidental?? based on no known/proven incidents of alcohol or drug abuse in this mans past - why would anyone think it wasn't accidental - was his tolerance low and maybe he wasn't fully aware of what he was doing and didn't remember what he had taken and couldn't make a sound judgement?

How would the coroner know that it was "accidental". Come one, anyone with brains knows not to mix drugs or take them in excess!

I knew from the get go that they would say "accidental overdose." They are trying to make it easier for his family, who immediately came out swinging saying he would never committ suicide. This case is so public and it deals with major studios, heavily connected actors and films that are in post production. They were never going to say suicide. In my opinion, there are all types of suicide. Did Heath take those pills saying, "I want to die." Who knows? But anyone who would take all those pills clearly didn't want to live. The doctors are also responsibile, unless of course he doctor shopped and picked up the meds from a variety of sources. With all his money and fame he could have bought them on the black market. Further, Mary Kate Olsen didn't do him any favors by sending her own team over and delaying him medical treatment for almost ten minutes. Shame on her for thinking she knew best in a medical crisis and shame on the masseuse for calling Mary Kate instead of the medics.

No one will ever know for sure whether it was an accident or not, but I would like to believe that his death was accidental. He had a a daughter, Matilda, that he adored so much. I don't think he would have left her on purpose. He had said in multiple interviews that he was exhausted, and the fact of the matter is that maybe his medicine just wasn't working for him anymore so he thought he had to keep taking more to feel better or to help him sleep. This is a tragic loss. Heath Ledger was an incredible actor, and a kind-hearted man with so much f*cking depth and that's how I want to remember him. Not as a drug addict who killed himself like all of you are saying.

THANK YOU BETH B! People are SO quick to judge others. Unless you are there with someone as they commit suicide or overdose on medication, KEEP your TRAP SHUT! No one knows what that man was going through. It's not your place to judge someone else. He was an intelligent man, and he probably did make a mistake, unfortunately he DEAD. People can be so mean and stupid to talk about someone that is dead. Get a life MARIA...take a couple of pills.

Everyone here is splitting hairs

All 'accidental overdose' means is that he didn't deliberately kill himself nor did he die of natural causes

Anything else is semantics
