How could Steve Irwin get killed by a Stingray?!
Question: 1. Was it because he knew very little about their behaviour
2. He was too cocky and came to close
3. He thought he knew what he was doing
4. He didnt realise the risk in swimming so close
5. He didnt know he was threatening the Stingray by swimming close above it
any other reasons?
I was very shocked when it happened btw and am not knocking Steve.

I think he just stirred it up & it got the sh!ts. I've swam with sting rays & mantarays in the wild & touched them they're pretty cool but if you move too fast aroud them they fully freak out

it's also got to do with him unable to judge distance underwater. he thought he was far enough when he is actually getting too close.
but he swam close to other more dangerous animals like crocs and sharks.
it was just plain bad luck.
all of the above. And he does dangerous stuff all the time and din't get hurt, so he thought it'll be ok to get close to the stingray but apparently he was TOO close and that's how he died.
No, maybe, yes, yes, he knew. It was a freak accident where he was swimming above the ray, it got spooked & put its barbed tail up in a defensive position. Steve just happened to be swimming above the barbed tail when it occurred. Just a freak accident.
I have swam with a ray, holding on to it as did Irwin.
That I did not get stung was by the grace of God. None of your asumptions are valid. Animals of any kind in the wild are unpredictable.
I have also swam with barracuda and a hammerhead and jellyfish and poked at moray eels in their caves.
God protects fools and babies and I of course am no baby.
It was somewhat a freak accident because a sting from a Stingray is usually fatal but the stinger was lodged into his chest.
It's sad he had to go out that way.
Perhaps, some or all. Many a time I said, this danger close stuff, is going to kill him one day. But thought he would be alot
older. Pity, he inspired alot of people.
the sting at the end went thru him and as he pulled it out the poison rushed thru his body :-(
I couldnt belive it wen he died, he was awesome!! i miss him doin all them shows so damn much....may he Rest In Peace
