Unfortunately, as always, Hollywood doesn't need to excuse itself.
There were no big blockbusters this year that people really cared about. The nominees for best actor and actress were the same as from years before -- Cate Blanchett, Tommy Lee Jones, George Clooney -- except for Ellen Page (from Juno) and hunky Javier Badem, there are no new faces to look at -- and I'm sick of Johnny Depp. The biggest, most refreshing surprise this year was that ex-stripper turned screenwriter who won the Academy Award for her Juno screenplay. I love it.
