I thought it was because he also confirmed the gossip about her being crazy weird when she was with Billy Bob. He did some interviews where he agreed with the general consensous that she was whacky.
He didn't meet her paternal expectations; I'm pretty sure that she didn't meet his expectations at times either. Gee....sounds like most of the world...the rest of the world just handles it better.
They have always had a very up and down relationship. He has a habit of blabbing her business to the media. He went public and said that he was afraid for her because she was acting "weird" or something. She got tired of his crap and they don't speak.
