At what age did Jack Johnson meet his wife Kim?!

Question: “I met Kim in my first week at the University of California, Santa Barbara We were both 18. It was one of those clichéd love-at-first-sight things, but for me it was true. I was a week out from under my mother’s wings, then I flew underneath Kim’s. She has always been my editor. When I started writing songs, she was the first person I’d play ’em to, even when I had just one line. She is a big music fan and turned me on to all kinds of stuff, like Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding.

Jack Johnson was brought into this world on May 18, 1975, on North Shore Oahu, Hawaii. His parents Jeff and Patti Johnson moved from southern California to Oahu after marrying. Jack has two older brothers Trent and Pete. At the young age of four, Jack got his first taste of surfing by kneeling on the front of his father’s board. By the time Johnson was twelve-years-old, he surfed at the globally feared Pipeline. When Jack was fourteen-years-old, his father’s friend Alex Conwell taught him how to play the guitar. While in high-school, Johnson played guitar and sang in a goofy punk band they called Limber Chicken. Surfing still being a huge part of his everyday life, Johnson went pro at the age of seventeen. Jack scored a sponsorship with Quiksilver, and entered one of the most prestigious surfing events in the world: Pipeline Masters. He was a finalist, and was the youngest person ever to do so. A week later, Johnson suffered a near death experience. While surfing, a wave crashed Jack into a reef, and he received about one-hundred-fifty stitches in his mouth and forehead.

During the recovery period Jack went through, he spent most of his time playing guitar and writing songs. Jack graduated from High School, and went on to college. Johnson moved to California to attend University of California Santa Barbara. During his first week at college, he met his future wife Kim. Jack graduated from college with a degree in film. One year after his 1997 graduation, he co-directed and shot the surf film Thicker Than Water, which became a major success. In 1999, his musical career was launched. Johnson was asked by his friend and front-man of the band G. Love and Special Sauce, Garrett Dutton to write a song for him. He wrote the song “Rodeo Clowns”, which was released on G. Love’s 1999 album “Philadelphonic”. The following year, Johnson married Kim Johnson. One year later, Jack Johnson released his debut album “Brushfire Fairytales” which became a huge success, and is still one of the most popular rock albums today. In the year of 2002 Jack’s second major surf film, named The September Sessions. Johnson found permanent band members, and released his second album “On and On”.

During the year of 2004, Jack founded the Kokua Hawaii Foundation. Kokua means “to help” in the Hawaiian language. This charity is a non-profit organization that promotes environmental awareness, and recycling in Hawaii. Along with the Kokua Foundation, Jack started the Kokua Festival, which is a music festival where Jack Johnson along with other musicians like Ben Harper perform to raise money for the Kokua Hawaii Foundation. Jack’s wife Kim gave birth to a child in the same year. The following year, Jack released his chart-topping third album “In Between Dreams”. Over a year later, it is still one of the most popular albums in America. Early in 2006, Johnson was nominated for a Grammy. He later went to the United Kingdom to win the Brit Award for best international newcomer. Later in 2006, he was asked to play original songs for the film Curious George. He released his fourth album “Sing-a-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George”. The first song from the album, “Upside Down” reached high positions on many charts, and the album topped the Billboard Top 200, and scored the number one position on the Australian albums (ARIA) chart in its debut week.
