The Supremes
Marvin Gaye
Gladys Knight and The Pips
Smokey Robinson
Stevie Wonder (originally known as "Little Stevie Wonder")
The Jackson Five (though everybody seems to have written so much about the Jackson family already that you may want to give them a pass).
Also as a side note about Motown itself. It was originally known as "Tamla-Motown" as outside the USA
As for a report on an artist or band. The Temptations and Marvin Gaye would be my first choices. The Temptations had a turbulent off-stage life. And Marvin Gaye ended up being murdered by his own father, just as his career had found a new resurgence, following his hit "Sexual Healing".
Also, if it's allowed... You could write your report on the songwriters responsible for most of Motown's biggest hits. The songwiting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland defined "The Motown Sound"

you might try smokey robinson. he is one of the artist that started motown. and many sources have called him 'the greatest american poet in the 20th century.' his group is called smokey robinson and the miracles... good luck
Lucky lucky!!! Motown rocks! I have seen the Temptations and the Four Tops in concert. If you want an interesting report do the Temps. They have had a rocky history filled with arguements, drugs, suicide. A lot of deep and sad stuff. I personally am more of a Four Tops fan but there is soo much info on the temps. Hope this helps!
