He started out having a radio show in L!.A!. with this other guy and together they co-hosted AI in the first season!. Then his co-host (Kevin Dunkleman!?)fizzled out, burned out, whatever, you can see this happening if you watch AI season one on dvd or on youtube!. So Ryan became sole co-host of AI!. He was the closest thing resembling another music related host, Dick Clark, and followed in that similar path, later taking over the Rockin' New Year's Eve special in NYC after Dick Clark had his stroke and couldn't really talk!. They've since co-hosted the last few shows with Ryan doing most of the work, and with Dick Clark's blessing!. Ryan had his own AI tv show, and then, Rick Dees, radio host of L!.A!.'s Kiis FM (top 40) got booted and was replaced by Ryan who is the current host!. That's it pretty much in a nutshell!. I think he did some talk shows, like Entertainment Tonight or something like that!. He's just one of those lucky people who got famous off of someone else's glory because I don't think he became as famous as he is until he was on American Idol!.
