I get that he was likeable, but he died a junkie - to the point he was denied access to his daughter because of his lifestyle!.

to answer the question, they are doing it because they worked with him for about a year, and that usually puts a personal attachment between the staff of the movie and him!. they are doing it because it was his last role that was completed before he died!. if you havent noticed!.!.!. most people that are in movies get drugged up!.!.!.!. alot!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
