I watched a documentary (sorry don't have a link) that took a quick look at her life and they mentioned repeatedly that she never felt that she was good enough for her mother and was always trying to prove that she was a good person!. She even went back to her hometown after she made it big and her mother would not come to the show which drove her into depression and deeper into drugs!. She was the "unwanted" child apparently!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I just heard a documentry about her on the CBC (Radio Canada)!. Maybe you could go to their site and download it!.
I think her mom was okay, and not the real cause of her troubles!.
But will we ever really know!?
