I can only assume that the popularity of Lugosi, Karloff and Chaney Jr was bigger because there were fewer actors around during their era, so naturally fans of the horror genre would have loved them!.
By the time Cushing and Lee came along Hollywood and the film industry in general was much bigger with more stars for people to choose from!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
