What Price Hollywood, Mike????!
Question: What Price Hollywood, Mike!?!?!?!?
When I interviewed Mike Leigh, I carped that `Vera Drake` and `Happy-Go-Lucky`, whilst neither was particularly my own cup of tea, had blockbuster Hollywood looks about them!.
Leigh`s reply, `I have always shot classically`!.
Dodging the question Mike!.
My instincts were confirmed upon reading Amy Raphael`s insightful book about the man!.
Ah ha! I knew it!. `Vera Drake` was shot with a kind of Kodachrome Eastman colour and `Happy Go Lucky` with Fuji film!. In addition `Happy Go Lucky` roped in some swell Hollywood editor to do the cutting (`Marathan Man`, etc)
So of course I hated what I saw even if I had loved the stories to begin with!.
Amy Raphael is a formidable film critic!. Formidable!. And if there`s one thing I learned from reading her account, and again I said as much to Leigh during the interview, it`s that he`s ready for Hollywood!. He`s ready for `big` themes!.!.!.period pictures!.
But is Hollywood ready to leave him alone and let him get on with it!?!?!?!?Www@Enter-QA@Com
