James Dean was in a lot more than just three movies!. But he was indeed in just three major movies, in which he had one of the leading roles, and it is for these three movies that he is most known!. In chronological order, those three movies are: East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant!.
Before he made these three movies, he appeared in a lot of television movies!. (For the list you can always check: http://www!.imdb!.com ) His very first 'acting experience' on screen, he had with making a Pepsi Cola commercial!. He was also in a couple of Broadway plays!. It is during one of these plays, that he was 'discovered' by Elia Kazan!.
He had a lot different jobs before getting his big break!.
He only lived to see the release of East of Eden!. He died before Rebel was released, and Giant wasn't even completely finished then!.
Why is he so famous!? He is considered as one of the first actors to play a real teenager in a movie!. In Rebel Without a Cause, he plays a troubled youngman that goes through all the things normal kids go through, which is why a lot of the young people in the 50's could relate to him!. He worked very hard to get his big break, and would have done anything to get to where he was!. And besides that he had a lot of talent as well!. And his looks helped as well, probably!.
The three major movies with James Dean are of course for sale!. I think you should be able to find them in any big dvd-shop!. Whether you can rent them, I don't know since I'm not from the US!. But if you have a place nearby where you can rent dvd's that has a classic movie section, I think you should be able to find them there!.

During the filming of 'Giant' (his last movie), he wasn't allowed to race, so as soon as the filming of his scenes was over, he got his new car out to go and compete in a race!. He was quite good at it, since he got some good results in previous races!. He hadn't driven his new car much yet, so when they were about half way, he decided to take the car of the truck and drive it to the race, so he would get a better feel of the car!. In the late afternoon of that day, he collided with another car in Cholame, California!. He died almost instantly!.
Being only 24, with just one of his movies released, and two more to come, this can be considered as a tragedy, and a big loss for the movie world!. James Dean was an avid sportscar driver and he killed himself driving his famed Porsche 550 Spyder on his way to a race at the intersection of Highway 41 & 46 in Cholame, California at the tender age of 24!. Yes, his rugged good looks got him in 3 films, Rebel Without A Cause, Giant & East Of Eden!. Wikpedia has other facts about this Hollywood film legend from1951-1955!.
