Why did the edge from U2 change his name to "the edge"?!

Question: Why did the edge from U2 change his name to "the edge"!?
Answers:
It was a nickname given to him by others!. He and Bono (real name Paul Hewson) were in a group of friends called " The Village" Basically they all had nicknames!. I have heard two reasons for THAT particular name:

1!. He has a pointed head
2!. He is always on the edge of thingsWww@Enter-QA@Com

I play guitar, and I once read in an interview in a guitar magazine that his nickname came from his fast strumming style!. The Egde has a very distinctive guitar sound, and it comes from playing on the very "edge" of the strings, which helps him to strum them so quickly!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I have to agree that all the answers are correct with the exception of the 1st one!. The Edge is a term for a style of guitar playing, he is extremely talented and they all have nicknames!. The band itself is a very unique group!. Their style is their own!. Anyone who hasn't really paid attention to U2 needs to listen to the Joshua Tree!. I luv em! =o`) <Peace>Www@Enter-QA@Com

Every answer is right, but I also say:

It's easier to remember than "Dave whats-his-name"!

Or like Flea(Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist):easier to remember than "Michael Balzary"!Www@Enter-QA@Com
