Welllll I think it's because when people get into a relationship, there is ALWAYS someone who's going to have a problem with it!. Whether it be an ex, family member, friend, or in their case, fans!. So when fans get angry b/c their future husband, Nick Jonas is actually dating someone!.!.!. a lot of hate follows!.!.
I mean, did you SEE Miley Cyrus (ex of nick jonas) make fun of Selena via Youtube!? I don't think she was trying to be funny, just annoying!.
Besides, when ppl know you're in a relationship!.!.!.they just want to dig their nose in as far as it can go, where it doesn't really belong in the first place, and it's not very fun when you just want a few moments where you don't have to share it with the world!.

It's their private lives so they want to keep it private!. When your a celebrity you have your entire life just out in the open for the entire public to see because of the paparazzi!. They just want to keep something secret and something that's as special as love private; just between them and the person they share their affection with!. I mean imagine that every single event in your life, every step you take, every time you go out is in every magazine and judged by everyone!. Think about having a relationship with someone you love put out their for everyone to see and judge and having chat rooms dedicated to the "i hate [your name and the-guy-your-dating's name]"!. it would hurt!. plus the paparazzi would follow around the two who were dating so they could never have a moment alone!.
