Ian McKellen is gay!.!.!.!.!.He came out in 1988!. My question is that they say, he never really hid it and went to alot of gay pride parades over the course of him coming out of the closet!. So, how come I just found out today!. In his movies he never plays a gay character!. How come he doesnt want to do it!? And it seems to me he hid it!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

If someone is openly gay, the press has nothing to speculate about so it becomes no big deal and they don't write about it!.
I can't speak for him - never heard of him until now - but there aren't that many gay parts to play!. It's only recently that you're starting to see them here and there!.
