The joke was that when Paul Newman made his first batch (which he gave out to friends and neighbors as Christmas gifts), that he was going to retire from acting to sell salad dressing!.
The joke turned out to be on him because the dressing was a hit, and as the story goes on the back label of the labels now: "It was either bottle & sell the stuff, or never answer the door again!"Www@Enter-QA@Com
