Paul's or Paul is...?!

Question: Paul's or Paul is!.!.!.!?
Can I say Paul's a tenth grade student, or should I say: Paul is a tenth grade student!?
Someone told me I can only use apostrophe "s" when I'm talking about something belonging to someone!.
Example: Paul's hamster is adorable!.
Is that person right!? If they are both correct, which is better!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I don't agree that you can only use it as a possessive!. Informally, we can create a contraction for "Paul is" by making it "Paul's!.!.!."

What you cannot do is stick an apostrophe in front of an 's' used to show that something is plural; an annoying and entirely too common mistake!. What you also cannot do is convert a legitimately plural word into something with a possessive in it!.

Standard: Paul's = That's Paul's dog!.

Informal: (acceptable in creative writing or letters, but not really formal business communication or academic work) Paul's a great guy!.

Wrong: All those house's look the same!.

also wrong: Academic's are not my strong suit!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

the 's technically means possession of!. having it stand for "is" is slang!. you can use the "is" version is talking, but in homework and professional work stuff use the it means the possession way!. the only exception is in "it is" as its and even in that case there is no ' (aposhtiphy)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Paul is a tenth grade student!. Paul's a tenth grade student doesn't make any sense since Paul's is possessive!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Paul's stands for Paul is!.
