I remember a comment he made during Top Gear, saying he preferred New Zealand, and thought Sydney was like "Birmingham without the Convention Centre, and everybody drives Toyota Starlets!."

It was a joke!.
Its that whole stupid thing Australia and England has going on!.Why do the Australians have to insist on calling the English "Poms"!. That's rude and insulting too!. They both get off on insulting each other, but its all superficial!. He used to host a travel show, and visited outback Australia!. If you watch it, he actually raves about Australia!.
He actually loves the Monaro, he has stated a few times that its one of his favourites!.
