Panic! at the disco question...?!

Question:

Panic! at the disco question...?

from the song "i constantly thank god for esteban" it sounds like it's making fun of a religion... is it? oh by the way i know the story about the religion thingy with his finger up to his lips whenever he says the lords name in vain, so you dont have to tell me that. but it sounds like the prayer "give us this day, our daily bread"... and the lyrics say "give us this day our daily dose of faux affliction". so is it making fun of a religion? just want to know... its a great song but when you hear the lyrics... ya... please answer this question if you can! thanks!

he puts his finger up to his lip like he's saying "shh" because he was taught not to say that and he just couldn't stand it anymore.

Answers:

Nope, not really.

From what I see at the lyrics, it's about the "emo scene"...like the meaning of Fall Out Boy's "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race", and how you're fed up with the people calling others emo and such. I think it's that in this song, Panic! explains that some people would look up at "emo" as a religion.

"Give us this day our daily dose of faux affliction". Faux affliction means fake pain or depression.

"And I for one can see no blood from the hearts and the wrists you allegedly slit". Relate this to the stereotypical label of an "emo".

So basically, it's like worshipping emo, and that if you were the person to find out the stupidity of the label "emo", you would be "sinned", I think.
