My electric guitar won't stop buzzing?!

Question:

My electric guitar won't stop buzzing?

I made an electric guitar and got a wiring diagram off of a proffessional and did the wiring exactly as i should have done but when I plug the guitar into the amp it buzzes really loudly. It seems to stop if i turn the tone control right down but I want to be able to use this. Also it buzzes more if i am touching any of the strings or controls. It has two single coils, a humbucker and a 5-way switch.

How can I stop the buzzing?????

Answers:

USUALLY, if all of the grounds are properly soldered and there is still buzzing, it GOES AWAY when you touch the strings. It really sounds like you should have another look at that schematic and make sure that all of your grounds are routed correctly and that you did a solid job of soldering.

Ideally, when you solder, the contact points shouldn't be separated by solder, but should be held in constant contact BY THE SOLDER.

Of course, before you do anything like desoldering, I would first verify that there's nothing else wrong with your signal chain, i.e. a poor ground in your amp or a bad cable. Plug a known good guitar into the exact same cable/amp/effects pedal setup that you currently have and see how it behaves if you already haven't.

Don't rule out the possibility of a bad tone knob either. If the ground is shorting to signal internally in the tone knob, you could get the same buzzing that you're describing, along with a decrease in buzz as you lower the tone knob setting.

Good luck.
