Answers:

I used to have the worst stage fright ever. It was so bad, it would control my performance. You don't want it to rule over your talent. There is a couple of things that taught me to get over stage fright.

Remember, it is healthy to have small butterflies. This gets your adrenaline pumping. Use it to your advantage. Speak positively to yourself and not negative. Tell yourself you are going to be great. Never go on stage with a negative attitude. Even if you genuinely don't feel positive about the situation, speak on it positively anyway. You will be amazed at how your own words in your head can change your performance. Literally speak to yourself and say "I'm going to be wonderful."

Another good thing to do is create an alter ego. Most of my friends who personally know me will tell you I am NOTHING like the person I turn into on stage. That is because I carry another personality with me. Whatever you are singing about, become that character. If your song is about being in love, turn into a star struck lover. If you song is about being ticked off, become an angry person! Become whatever you are singing about, and you will not have time to think about the audience. You will be temporarily "possessed" by the character in the song. If you delve deep inside the words of the song and yourself, you will find your alter ego. Carry him/her with you whenever and however you sing. Of course remember technique, but remember you are no longer yourself. You are a different person onstage.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS relax your body before singing. Do some stretching, whether it is a few yoga moves, rolling your neck and shoulders around, anything to relax your body before going on stage. Stretch out your arms, touch your toes, anything of that nature. Many times, singers don't perform to their full capacity because they are too tense. Just a few simple stretches will improve your body connection to the voice. And of course, make sure you practice enough to where you feel secure on your songs. The more you practice, the more secure you will be. But don't overdo it by blowing your voice out. Make sure you have good vocal habits, and take care of yourself.

When you sing, it isn't all about the audience. Don't think about whether they will like it or not. It is all about YOUR expression. If you think of it as your own display verses impressing people, you will see a big difference in stage fright. Forget about them. If you for a second think about the audience, immediately go back to thinking about that character and what you feel like giving out. Now is the time to be selfish for once in your life. It is all about you. Now create that alter ego and conquer that talent show!!!
